Haruki Murakami has won the Jerusalem Prize--or, more specifically, the Jerusalem Prize for the Freedom of the Individual in Society, an award given to a writer whose work "has dealt with human freedom, society, politics, and government."
Past winners of the award include Arthur Miller, Susan Sontag, Bertrand Russell, Simone de Beauvoir, Octavio Paz, and Mario Vargas Llosa.
I'm so disappointed that he will be accepting the award! I thought the man had principles but alas he will accept an award supported the Israel Foreign Ministry that killed 1,300 Palestinians.
