It looks like Memoirs of My Melancholy Whores, which García Márquez published five years ago, was it for the literary master whose novels, novellas, short fiction, memoir and journalism have entranced for more than five decades.
The Colombian author is 82-years-old. In the last few years, he's been public about not having the energy or heart for the standard of writing he's accustomed to. (He admits it'd be no trouble for him to publish anything he wanted, but that doesn't satisfy him). It's rumored, however, that García Márquez has a stash of unpublished and complete manuscipts in his possession.
But for us enthusiastic readers of his work, perhaps there's nothing to be sad about, whether or not those hidden manuscipts exist and whether or not García Márquez feels suddenly inspired to write.
