And away we go: Tim Burton alchemizes the glorious weirdness of Lewis Carroll and brings you a peek into the latest silver screen adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, assisted by a team of mad players that includes Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Anne Hathaway, and Crispin Glover:
My first reaction: It seems gimmicky, a little too much winking and elbow-nudging. But at the same time, it's intriguing. If anyone can work with the Carroll's potent cocktail of the playful and the grim, I suspect it's Burton (to say nothing of Depp, Carter, and Glover).
See you in the theaters this March.
While I'm always excited to see Johny Depp in excessive make up, I'm a bit worried that this adaptation might focus a bit too heavily on the Mad Hatter, if nothing else than to give the film an "OMG, we have to see the new Depp film" quality to it.
Of course, I could be completely wrong, but I would love to see it regardless.
