It's a happy mail day today: paperback editions of Marilynne Robinson's Home and Per Petterson's To Siberia came to my doorstop. These are writers I'm in love (yes, not just love, but love), these are their major recent novels, and I hadn't yet gotten my hands on them. I watched as award after award got handed to them (Orange Prize, LA Times Book Prize, and National Book Award finalist for Robinson; a Time Out New York Best Book of the Year for Petterson, following closely on his armfuls of prizes and praise for Out Stealing Horses). And now, as I ready myself this week for traveling through small towns and lingering in the Lake Michigan sand dunes, I've got myself some great company.
