Quick Hit: Cornel West Tells All

Dr. Cornel West has just published the hotly anticipated memoir, Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud. He is, as TIME Magazine has called him, "one complex dude: brilliant scholar, political activist, committed Christian and soul brother to the bone.” He is also, of course, a Princeton professor of religion and African-American stories and an established author of many books, including the classic Race Matters.

On Democracy Now!, West discusses his upbringing, public healthcare, post-election disappointment, the role of music in his life, his spat with former Harvard president and current White House economic adviser Lawrence Summers, and more.

Isak is a space to celebrate tales and truth in the curious, joyful way embodied by the writer for which it is named. The name "Isak," after all, means "laughter," as she was fond of pointing out.

By tales, I mean fiction (especially short fiction), as well as other literary and artistic narratives. By truth, I mean the world in which we live. I especially have my eye on creative social justice.
