I hope you'll take a moment to check out the fledgling website of Amanda Stahl, a young disability justice educator, queer activist, and social worker. If you have inclination and opportunity, consider connecting with her for speaking and media opportunities.
Lucky me, I've been working as Amanda's health aide for lo these many months, and not only have I found her to be bright and brilliant, but to be a great friend. She is curious, joyful, and committed. I have learned a great deal from her, and for that, I am grateful.
While she's leaving Detroit this week for Louisville, as her year in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps comes to a close, I'm pleased that Amanda will be back in Fall 2011 as a student at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. In the meantime, she's actively pursuing her skills as a speaker, presenter, and facilitator (and she and I have a few collaborations up our sleeve too). You won't regret giving her shout.
