...this list is hilarious. did you just wonder one day about who was described as chekovian and google it, or did you get this list from somewhere else?...

I've actually noticed how practically every good playwright or story writer is described as Chekhovian, and I wondered it was because Chekhov was so damn good that such a huge range of good writing can be traced back to him (this is possible), or if reviewers just want to sound smart and have a limited number of story/play writers to cite. So yeah, I googled it. And this is such a BRIEF sample of the results...

What's funny is how general the Chekhov citations are. I DARE these folks to cite exact Chekhov passages that they think is comparable to the exact words of these other writers...

And just you wait til I test out "Dickensian!"

I just read Joy Williams' "The Girls" last night... blown away and will read more!

  • Isak is a space to celebrate tales and truth in the curious, joyful way embodied by the writer for which it is named. The name "Isak," after all, means "laughter," as she was fond of pointing out.

By tales, I mean fiction (especially short fiction), as well as other literary and artistic narratives. By truth, I mean the world in which we live. I especially have my eye on creative social justice.
