15th Anniversary of LA riots ... interesting note, but let's not forget THE riots, the worst in American history --- those of 1967. 40 Years ago and the effects are just as striking in many communities as they were then. There were riots all of the nation that summer, with the worst being in Detroit, MI and Newark, NJ. Those were the most famous and indeed the worst, but it was a hot summer and the nation was erupting in violence all over the place. If you want to learn more read the Kerner Commission Report. It is now 40 years old, but in many communitiies, unfortunately, it could have been written today and be just as relevant.

  • Isak is a space to celebrate tales and truth in the curious, joyful way embodied by the writer for which it is named. The name "Isak," after all, means "laughter," as she was fond of pointing out.

By tales, I mean fiction (especially short fiction), as well as other literary and artistic narratives. By truth, I mean the world in which we live. I especially have my eye on creative social justice.
