Any title available in English is eligible for this prize, and in gathering its longlist, the IMPAC DUBLIN Literary Award (which tempts me to turn on caps lock just to type its name) has gathered an impressive collection of 137 fiction titles. You could do worse than make this your personal reading list.
I've read just a handful of these novels, but I'll throw my hat in and cheer for authors that have already earned my trust and respect. Among them:
- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Half of a Yellow Sun)
- Margaret Atwood (Moral Disorder)
- Kathryn Davis (The Thin Place)
- Cormac McCarthy (The Road)
- Naeem Murr (The Perfect Man)
- David Mitchell (Black Swan Green)
- Richard Powers (The Echo Maker)
- Ngugi Wa'Thiongo (Wizard of the Crow)
