I'm not sure what I think about this. Turns out Vladmir Nabokov wanted his last destroyed novel burned; the unread book has sat in a Swiss vault for years as the sad occasion is postponed. But his son, Dmitri (age 73), is considering the literary world's understandable interest in getting a look at the manuscript (which is called The Original of Laura). Dmitri has actually read the book--and he says its much, much better than his father proclaimed when he called for its torching.

Isak
- Isak is a space to celebrate tales and truth in the curious, joyful way embodied by the writer for which it is named. The name "Isak," after all, means "laughter," as she was fond of pointing out.
By tales, I mean fiction (especially short fiction), as well as other literary and artistic narratives. By truth, I mean the world in which we live. I especially have my eye on creative social justice.

All the same, reading The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao feels like a discovery. This is a wild, soaring, stylized, hilarious, heartbreaking, and highly-voiced novel, one that indulges in tale-telling and, in the ample footnotes, passionate essaying.
