Anna-

Your blog came up on my google alerts for "Eastern Market Detroit."

I am impressed with your mix of food, non profit and social justice issues. Have you been following the developments at the Eastern Market?

I know this is confusing, but there are two eastern market detroit websites. detroiteasternmarket.com is the official website of the Market. It is run by Eastern Market Corporation, the recently formed non-profit organization that manages the public market and economic development in the area around the core. www.easternmarket.org is run by a former board member. detroiteasternmarket.com, while it needs a lot of work, is continually updated, the other is not. If possible, I would like you to change the link on your blog.

If you would like to learn more about the market, and our role in the michigan food system, please do not hesitate to ask. Based on what I have seen on your blog, I think you will be quite impressed with the things that are going on here.

Thanks for the info! I'll update the link immediately.

Thanks for all the good work you do. Eastern Market is indeed one of my favorite places in the city.

Anna, The problems with powerpoint go much deeper than simply presenters relying on them as a crutch instead of thinking and talking. If you have the time and inclination you might check out the commentary on pp by Ed Tufte - I think it appears as a chapter in his book Beautiful Evidence.

I think your blog is terrific.

Isak

  • Isak is a space to celebrate tales and truth in the curious, joyful way embodied by the writer for which it is named. The name "Isak," after all, means "laughter," as she was fond of pointing out.

By tales, I mean fiction (especially short fiction), as well as other literary and artistic narratives. By truth, I mean the world in which we live. I especially have my eye on creative social justice.
