We didn't chose a home-birth but the birth of our son was eased by working with the Midwives at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. It's a great program and evidence the collaboration is possible.

It's awfully easy to paint the midwifery and home birth conversation as "for/against," as if there's no overlap. I'm real interested in hearing more about collaborations like yours.

My sister's having the same experience in Scotland, where she'll give birth any day now; it's becoming common for people to work with midwives and doctors both, wherever they decide to actually have the baby.

This would be an interesting follow-up article. You may hear me digitally knocking on your door to talk more about this...

  • Isak is a space to celebrate tales and truth in the curious, joyful way embodied by the writer for which it is named. The name "Isak," after all, means "laughter," as she was fond of pointing out.

By tales, I mean fiction (especially short fiction), as well as other literary and artistic narratives. By truth, I mean the world in which we live. I especially have my eye on creative social justice.
