AbeBooks' latest promotion? It's called "Thirty Novels Worth Reading for the Cover Alone." And yes, it's a feast for the eyes.
The Guardian digs further into "the pictures that sell thousands of words"--how the appropriate book cover allows us to advertise what kind of person we are as we read on subway trains, and how cover art doesn't seem to be able to penetrate the paperback/hardcover divide in a meaningful way.
Meanwhile, a commenter on The Guardian piece tipped me off to a fascinating blog called The Book Design Review. It does just that, often comparing U.S. and U.K. versions of the same book, for example, or the art of novels by Haruki Murakami.
O, hours of the day, how easy you are to wile away.
