was never a fan. found his work way too shrill.

It was interesting to read in what may be one of Zinn's last public writings, what he had to say about Obama's first year as president: "I think people are dazzled by Obama's rhetoric, and that people ought to begin to understand that Obama is going to be a mediocre president--which means, in our time, a dangerous president--unless there is some national movement to push him in a better direction."

Annmarie, thanks so much for the link -- I hadn't seen that. And you're write, it may be his last public piece of writing.

I will certainly miss Howard Zinn. Although I am quite young his opinions and teachings are timeless. If you care to read more I dedicated some writings to him on my website:

Isak

  • Isak is a space to celebrate tales and truth in the curious, joyful way embodied by the writer for which it is named. The name "Isak," after all, means "laughter," as she was fond of pointing out.

By tales, I mean fiction (especially short fiction), as well as other literary and artistic narratives. By truth, I mean the world in which we live. I especially have my eye on creative social justice.
