The Body in Pain, by Elaine Scarry, is not explicity feminist. But I think the exploration of human violence -- specifically torture and rape -- should qualify it. Also, it is *really* good.

Oh, I love Elaine Scarry! I would *love* to read that book.

I have just ordered "Woman, Native, Other" by Trinh T. Minh-Ah. I can't wait to read her.

I just looked that one up, Stefania ... it really does look amazing. Thank you for bringing it to my/our attention. And happy reading!

Being male precludes my truly understanding feminism and the issues women face as women. However, my twenty years as a corrections officer allowed me to observe and deal with the consequences of an unbalanced society.

Now, as a writer, I must recognize that my works will always reflect a male perspective. I can only hope that they reflect also an informed and sensitive perspective.

You are invited to read "Marcus of Abderus and the Inn at the Edge of the World," the first novel in an exciting new fantasy adventure series. Available now at Barnes and Noble.com. Did you enjoy visiting Middle Earth? Valdemar? Spend some time at the Edge of the World. Come for the view. Stay for the adventure.

Isak

  • Isak is a space to celebrate tales and truth in the curious, joyful way embodied by the writer for which it is named. The name "Isak," after all, means "laughter," as she was fond of pointing out.

By tales, I mean fiction (especially short fiction), as well as other literary and artistic narratives. By truth, I mean the world in which we live. I especially have my eye on creative social justice.
